Pizza Margherita
Ingredients
- All-purpose flour, for dusting the counter
- Two portions pizza dough
- Semolina flour, for dusting the pizza peel
- ⅔ cup tomato sauce for pizza, divided
- 4 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, cut into ¼-inch-thick slices, then torn or cut into 1- to 2-inch pieces, patted dry, divided
- 12-14 fresh basil leaves
- Extra-virgin olive oil, to serve
Instructions
- 1. Heat the oven with a baking steel or stone at 500°F for at least 1 hour.
- 2. Broil, dust the counter with all-purpose flour, and shape one dough portion into a 10-inch round.
- 3. Dust the peel with semolina, transfer the dough, and top with half the tomato sauce and mozzarella.
- 4. Bake until browned and melted, 5 to 8 minutes.
- 5. Repeat with the second dough portion. Finish each pizza with torn basil and olive oil.
- 6. Cut into slices and serve.
